What is Hamlet's attitude towards women? Think about his earlier criticism of Gertrude -- "Frailty thy name is woman" -- and the way he treats Ophelia in this scene.

  1. Hamlet's attitude towards woman demonstrate that he thinks he are weak, easily charmed and manipulated by men. They are not strong enough. For example, his mom when she was charmed by his uncle and married him eventually right after the king's death. Another clear example is that Ophelia is easily manipulated by Polonius into not talking to Hamlet anymore. Both things he clearly realizes and he is aware of them.

  2. Hamlet´s attitude towards women is repulsion. He thinks they are fragile and worthless. He is mad at his mother but he kind of shows some signs of affection towards Ophelia but his hatred and hunger of revange makes him act as a monster towards poor Ophelia. It is a love/hate opinion toward women but mostly pity for their fragility.

  3. Hamlets attitue towars women shows us that he thinks that women can be affected easily, therefore he thinks that women are weak. We can see the evidence with the women which Hamlet is related to. Ophelia shows weakness when she is affected by his father. Hamlests reaction shows us that he disrespect women.

  4. Hamlets attitude towards women seems to eb a little bit of the paradox, for he seems to like and love them a lot, but when he gets mad he looses all respect for them. There is no such thing as a infinite love for womne, he sees women as a weak and breakale soul, which is not enough to be worthy of the respect a gentlemen does. He seems to not treat with full respect them, and to not care of their feelings.

  5. hamlets attitude towards women is that he thinks they are easily manipulateed and weak, weak in the matter that they are scared of men and they let theirselves get manipulated, like ohpelia being manipukated by Polonius, i think ithat in real life its totally the other way around, i think women manipulate man more than men manipuate women

Hamlets attitude to womenis that women are just weak and useless in more than just one way. He thinks that women can surrender very easily to any obstacle that is in their way and prefer to choose the easy way. Although I completely disagree with this, Hamlet thinks that women are trecherous and prefer the safe path to luxuries.

  7. Hamlets attitude toward woman is totally normal. He shows signs of hate, but he has all the right, his mom has just married his uncles shortly after his father died. Ophelia has just broken his heart by telling him, she doesn’t want to be with him. He has normal reactions, mad towards his mother for betraying him, and upset at Ophelia for making her dad interfere in their relationship. He even showed some love to Ophelia before knowing that her dad was spying on them. Yes he used Ophelia at the mirror room, but I believe he would also use a man if in the same position.

  8. Hamlet's attitude towards women is not a good one. We only have seen him interact with only two women, Gertrude and Ophelia. He once said, "fraility, they name women." Today, this means that weakness equals women. Hamlet thinks of them as traitors, not in that way, but in the way that they choose the path that is more convenient for them. For example, Ophelia loved Hamlet, but she took Polinesious wishes and wouldnt be with Hamlet anymore as they used to be. Another example is Gertrude, she married Hamlet's uncle a month after her husband's death. I think she did this to not feel alone. That is what Hamlet thinks about women.

  9. I think that Hamlet loves women, he knows that they are a very important part of life, but whenever he is angry, he forgets all of this and he takes it out on the women. As if they had never done nothing for him, he loses all respect he ever had towards them. In the scene with Ophelia, when he didn’t know that he was being spied upon, you can see his real feelings towards women, but then when he hears the sound, he has a totally different attitude.

  10. I could totally understand why your ex-girlfriend disliked Hamlet Mr. Gerber.....
Hamlet percieves woman as a mere instrument for men. Weak, manipulated by the hands of their husbands, or any other male figure they have as an authority. Hamlet himself, is playing with Ophelia´s thoughts and feelings, by making her believe he is mad. of course its all part of Hamlet´s macabre plan, nevertheless he still tells her what to do, by obliging her to go to the ... place where nun´s go.. whatever its called, he is selfishly trying to prevent her from having any interaction with another man.

  11. Hamlet's attitude towards women is not one that women deserve. That is, Hamlet devalues women. I guess I could put it as "Hamlet treats women as an inferior to men." Though how fast Gertrude remarried gives her a sad, pitiful image but the way Hamlet treats Ophelia makes it clear that he thinks women to be weak and easy to manipulate.

  12. Hamlet has a discriminant attitude towards women. He uses the to his own benefit and does not care for what they think or feel. He is selfish and only wants to do whats best for him. So he goes to for example to Ophelia and uses her and manipulats her but never does he shows her gratitude.

  13. Hamlets attitude towards women is that they are simply weak, and that they can me manipulated easily. As Ophelia that has been manipulated by polonius. He believes that they take the easy way out of obstacles. Thats why he treats them as inferiors and unequals to him and men.

  14. I believe Hamlet´s attitude towards women is that he just sees them as tools. I mean, she used Ophelia to tell everyone he was crazy, and he obviously feels superior than them. Though, I do not think that if this play was written today, instead of 500 years ago, it would be the same. Women do not held the same status they did before. Therefore, even though to us it might look like Hamlet treats them as mere tools, in the time it was written maybe it was normal to see that. Nevertheless, he does not treat women as they deserve it.
