To what extent do parents have the right to “spy” or check up on their children? What circumstance might allow or prevent this? Do Claudius and Gertrude have the right to spy on Hamlet?

  1. In my opinion parents have absolutely no rights to spy on their children. It really doesn't matters if your parents are doing it for your own good, you have the right to have your own privacy. For me the people who spy on their kids through cameras, GPS, and other sources are people who have excessive emotional attachment toward their kids and in the end things could turn ugly. To prevent this, parents should trust more in their kids by showing that they, as the parents, trust in their kids. For that same reason I think that Claudius and Gertrude have no right to spy on Hamlet. What they need to show is that they trust him as a son even if he is acting crazy.

  2. I believe parents do have the right to spy on their children just because they are their parents and they have the power to get the son or the daughter on the right path. Nevertheless, they should not take advantage of this right. Parents should spy on their offspring only when they believe he or she is seriously messed up. If this is not the case, they must not do so. Therefore, Claudius and Gertrude have every right to spy on Hamlet, for they believe he is crazy, and they certainly want to help him in his madness.

  3. I believe that parents have the right to spy on their children only if this must be done to understand or find out what the cause is for their children to make bad decissions. If this is not necessary, parents must let their children have privacy and show them that they trust them. They can do this because they have every right to help you, in the end they are your parents and will always find a way to help you even if you dont want to. Claudius and Gertrude have have the right to spy on Hamlet, because they are worried because of the way he is acting and want to find a way to help him. They think he is crazy and want to find why he is acting this way to help him.

  4. Parents always want what's best for their children, and sometimes it is inevitable to not spy on them. Some do it for curiosity, to get to now their son/daughter, to know the path that their children are, etc. I guess that it is OK for parents to spy on their children. I guess that one day I'll do some spying on my children. Of course, there are some limits to this situation. Parents often stalk on their children and make them lose trust. As long as each parent know what they are doing, and set themselves a limit, it is alright to do some spying on their kids.

  5. Trust is hard to get and easy to loose.I think that the relationship between a parent and there child is very important. Between this kind of relationship you need trust. The child needs to trust there parents that they will give him space and privacy. In the other hand, parents needs to trust there child that he will choose the right path, which is obviously the good path. But there is no harm to anyone if a parent takes a look to see what his his child up to. I think spying has its limits. Therefore i think that parents can spy their children but only if they dont take it to the limit. Parents are responsible for their children but that dosent mean that their children cant have some "privacy".
In the case of Hamlet. I dont think that Claudius and Getrude have the right to spy on Hamlet. I think that they need to trust there son.

  7. This is a tough question to answer. The more I think about it the more i realize how many times my mother has probably came inside my room and scattered through my drawers. Anyway,i think that parents are not born with the right to spy on their children whenever they feel like it. But I do believe its necessary to be aware of the actions and activities their children are performing. Its valid to check on a child whenever a parent senses trouble in their kids actions or behavior, without abusing the power of these rights.

  8. Children are the refect of their parents. The form of raising them, is refecte on the childrens form of being. Parents have no right to spy on their children. We are all people and will go threw bad times, just as our parents whent threw bad times. But this is the form in which we learn, from our mistakes. Overprotective parents tend to rais rebelious children, that hide from their parents. While relaxed parents have closer relationships with their parents.
I trust my parents for everything, in every aspect of my life, i know i can tell them about it and trust them, therfore i hide nothing. In the other hand i hjave a friend with an over protective mom and she hides evething she does to her causing alot of problems.
Based on that matter i believe that the parent have no right in any circumstance to spy on their children. We will go threw bad times, but spiying is not the way of helping, trust and advice are way better.
